Four Gifts For the Republicans
6-18-06
Leave it to the Republicans to wrap the American flag around these events, and use public indignation to whip up the right wing of political sentiment. For Karl Rove & Co. these tragic events are actually gifts, and so that’s what we’ll call them too.
The first "gift" to the Republican Party would be if N. Korea launches a test missile toward Japan or California.
The second "gift" is, as of this writing, the kidnapping of two American soldiers in Iraq. What a tragedy for the men, and what terrible timing for the anti war movement. But it's another gift for the Republicans, around which Bush and Cheney will just wrap the flag.
The third gift to the Republicans is none other than the now carefree Karl Rove, walking scott free, waving himself, after being totally exonerated by the "investigations" of the "Special Prosecutor," (after about 1 1/2 yrs of investigation, and 5 appearances before that committee). And just in case you were concerned. He survived the hearing just fine. A lot better than Monica who was so terrified by her Special Prosecutor that she was afraid to wash her dress. I guess she was afraid that the Secret Service would just look right into her laundry basket and pull out that nasty dress. Indeed, that dirty laundry was the banner that pulled down the Democrats, in the 2000 election. Still, Al Gore won the popular vote. But he lost the election because the Supreme Court decided to give the election to Bush without holding another election in Florida. With all the hoopla over divining the meaning of the chads, they could have held another election.
This takes us to gift four. Carl Rove won't be a featured marcher in the Democratic Party's "Culture of Corruption" campaign against the Republicans. But the Democrats found one of their own to be the featured marcher, in their culture of corruption. Would you believe, another William Jefferson (as distinct from a William Jefferson Clinton). Will they be able to thaw out the effects of $100,000 in cash that was stored in his freezer, in time for the elections? Indeed, the culture of corruption is bipartisan. But another William Jefferson? Is God so bored with world events that he's doing stand up now?
I guess the moral is that you could out a CIA agent with impunity, and your actions won't be judged a threat to national security, unless you lie about whether you outted the agent. The Democrats are not united, and Bush seems to either be able to turn negative events to his advantage, or they just roll off the backs of the Neo-Cons. The Democrats may not take back the House or Senate in 2006 elections, after all.
I heard a presentation by Robert Kennedy, Jr. on Link TV about the accelerated deterioration of the environment since 2000. For instance, asthma, which is at least in part, environmentally based, has doubled in 6 years. His four children all have asthma. I think he's a really great human being. He's been doing environmental work for years. He sounded so dejected, and he has a speech disorder that must make the very act of speaking painful. Very sad.
One "positive" note, if we could call it that, is Al Gore's presentation on Global Warming. I saw it on Link TV, and now it's in the movies, and a hit. That's great. That's about the most cheerful thing I could think of!! But wait. What if the N. Korean missile goes cross country and hits Washington DC? Guess the culture of corruption will just move to a secure, undisclosed location.
